A Very Solid 19th Century Bench With Wonderful Lichen Mottling To The Timber. Form And Function.
A rather splendid 19th Century bench, lichen on the wood adds a wonderful rustic charm with metal scrolled ends. Back legs show the loss of a small piece of the terminal scroll to one foot and another is slightly twisted to compensate intentionally as the bench sits firmly on the ground.
Very similar in style to the benches of Lord’s Cricket Ground in St John’s Wood, London and indeed from a gentleman born in St John’s Wood whose grandfather adored cricket.
