Carved Wooden Sita Figurine From Rajasthan
This is a very worn wooden figurine of a lady from Banswara, Rajasthan in India. Believed to be the Goddess Sita. Sita is described as the daughter of the earth goddess Bhumi and the adopted daughter of King Janaka of Mithila and Queen Sunaina. In her youth, she marries Rama, the prince of Ayodhya. Although belived to be 19thC, the carving and wear suggest it may be older.
Probably carved from teak, the figurine certainly has quite a weight.
