Museum Quality Catherine Of Alexandriaelizabethan Polychrome Figure
Saint Catherine of Alexandria, also known as Saint Catherine of the Wheel and The Great Martyr Saint Catherine is, according to tradition, a Christian saint and virgin, who was martyred in the early 4th century at the hands of the pagan emperor Maxentius who had her broken on the wheel. This hugely evocative figure is of considerable age and eminates from central Europe. The figure has been treated and the gesso and timber are in fair condition, with some flaked paint.
Believed to have been used as a film prop in the TV series Jamaica Inn.
