A large John Piper of Pimlico stoneware flagon

A large John Piper of Pimlico stoneware flagon

An extremely rare and decorative flagon or handles jar marked Lambeth Pottery Doulton & Watts of London in super condition it is also marked JOHN PIPER 73a CLARENDON St PIMLICO and the number 2 and stands 40cm tall and 24cm wide. No cracks and Slipware all good with minor age related chips to the neck. Super colour. There are records of a butcher JOHN PIPER on Grosvenor Row, Pimlico (which later became part of Pimlico Road) who died in 1851 and butchers were allowed to sell alcohol so it is possible that it was from him, 73a may well have been his home address, perhaps an error of a billing address? Very interesting and further information on the elusive Mr Piper is always welcome!
