This is an exceptionally well presented Yorkshire side chair, these chairs were manufactured primarily in Yorkshire and Derbyshire and are sometimes called Derbyshire chairs. They were a propular design during the 17th Century and were then revived during the 19th Century and indeed, inturprutations of them are still made today. The seat height is 43cm. This particular chair is believed to have come from the Rothschild collection by repute, possibly from Oare, Wiltshire. It is believed by some people to have Green Man imagery in the carving.
